Seatbelts, everyone! Ride the bus with the Boarding House Arts Incubator to the closing reception and performances of TH&B UNITED. You don’t need to get on a waiting list or sign any waiver forms. This is first come, first served: all you need is $5 for bus money. Meet us at Boarding House Arts (6 Dublin St. S) at 7:30 PM sharp, on the evening of Saturday, May 16, and get ready for a late-night field trip to the grand finale of this immersive installation experience with 16 of the region’s greats!
TH&B UNITED features large-scale multidisciplinary works of art ranging from sculptures to site-specific interventions, and audio and video installations from artists in the Toronto, Hamilton, and Buffalo area. Though Guelph isn’t a stop on the historic TH&B railway line (which crossed the Niagara Peninsula from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie), the exhibition reaches conceptually north in many ways, with installations by Guelph’s own Janet Morton and SOFAM MFA alums Nadia Belerique, Marco D’Andrea, and Laura Marotta. Recently featured on Canadian Art’s list of top 10 shows to see this spring, the installation brings together a dynamic selection of artworks by emerging and established artists whose works address the intersection of industry and environment endemic to the Rust Belt region bordering Lake Erie and Ontario.
With work by Nadia Belerique, Marco D’Andrea, (F)NOR (Donna Akrey and Margaret Flood), Lucy Howe, iloks / swell (Lesley Loksi Chan and C. Wells), Kelly Mark, Laura Marotta, Andrew McPhail, Julian Montague / David Adamczyk, Laura Moore, Zeke Moores, Janet Morton, Tyler Tekatch, TH&B (Simon Frank, Dave Hind, Ivan Jurakic, and Tor Lukasik-Foss), Brandon Vickerd, and Matthew Walker.
