A new paper on art and resilience

Dandelions burst through a crack in the concrete.

Musagetes, the J.W. McConnell Foundation (Montreal), and the Breuninger Stiftung (Berlin) share a belief in the value of the arts in making our communities and cities livable, just, beautiful, and resilient. We all recognize the need for deeper thinking about how the arts make our cities more resilient so we collaborated to convene a group of people for a few days on Wasan Island in the Canadian Muskokas. The group was comprised of artists and cultural workers; representatives of private and community foundations, as well as public arts funders; architects; environmentalists; publishers; impact investors; and academics working on sustainable business, community sustainability, and arts and social change. A paper titled “The Art of Resilience, the Resilience of Art” was generated by the participants and is meant as one anchor document for the emerging Cities for People network that is focussed on cross-sectoral resilience in cities.
